For a class assignment, we were tasked with creating personal data visualization postcards

inspired by the Dear Data project/book. I collected a week's worth of data for 4 aspects of my life and

represented those findings in an abstract fashion. My topics were: Hobbies, Petting my cat, Laughter &

Stimming/sensory behaviours.

Data collection & finals

I tracked all my data using Ellipsus, I just process information better with text over spreadsheets. I had a minimum

of 3 variable for each topic and collected about a week's worth of data for each of them. Some involved other

peoples reactions & behaviours while others contained my own.

A week of laughter:

I tracked what made two friends of mine (and myself) laugh for a week. I tracked how hard we laughed,

the subject of laughter and whether we laughed at the same thing. This felt like very good research cause I

can now figure out the best bits to make my best friend laugh.

A week of hobbies:

I tracked a week's worth of hobbies, how long i spent on each activity and if I felt fulfilled or not doing it.

As you can see, I didn't really have much time to spend on my hobbies during the data collection period.

This gave me insight into trying to have a better work-life balance in the future.

A week of stimming:

This was the most complex of all the postcards I've made. I tracked the types of stims that I noticed myself engaging

in (and had to sort them), the intensity of the motion, and what caused it (based on my best guesses). I had to

come up with several unique icons for clarity and diversity. I sometimes still use this system for tracking my

stims outside of this assignment.

A week of petting:

The cutest and most straight forward of my postcards. I wanted to know how my tabby Wally liked being pet

most, so I used this project as an opportunity to do so. I tracked the type of petting, the duration & his reaction to it.

I made this one mixed media with actual cat stickers to mark if he purred or slow-blinked at me (very pleased).
